What You Will Do:

The Energy and Environment (E&E) group within Guidehouse’s Energy, Sustainability, and Infrastructure (ES&I) practice, provides technical and market analysis related to the potential for new and emerging technologies to save energy. Additionally, the E&E group supports the development and enforcement of Federal energy efficiency standards for appliances, lighting, and other commercial/residential/industrial equipment.

TheEnergy Efficiency Associate Director HVAC/Refrigeration role will have specific responsibilities that may include but not limited to:

  • Working on short- and long-term engagements to support Federal clients whose responsibilities are to develop Energy policies and regulations.

  • Drafting, reviewing and editing inputs to Federal Register notices.

  • Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy-related activities.

  • Assessing technologies and analyzing technology trends.

  • Modeling the performance of advanced technologies.

  • Creating and managing spreadsheets/data.

  • Effectively leading and facilitating workshops and working sessions with clients and other stakeholders.

  • Planning for and overseeing staff resources.

  • Reviewing work performed by others.

  • Managing projects and tasks on-time, on budget, and at a high level of quality.

  • Communicating solutions and new strategies to clients through reports and presentations.

  • Identifying and advancing sales opportunities at new clients.

The responsibilities of this position also include cultivating and maintaining working partnerships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry representatives, equipment manufacturers, testing laboratories, trade organizations, and efficiency advocates.


What You Will Need:

  • US Citizen or a US Permanent Resident status (due to the nature of client engagements)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
  • 9+ years of relevant post graduation work experience with specialization in HVAC/Refrigeration.
  • Ability to apply significant consulting and industry expertise
  • Strong interest in and broad knowledge of energy efficiency and advanced technologies for the built environment.
  • Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work
  • Capable of regularly using close visual acuity and operates computer equipment to prepare, analyze and transmit data accordingly
  • Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a team as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently
  • Must constantly operate a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Masters and/or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar field.
  • 6+ additional years of post graduation work experience in HVAC/Refrigeration.
  • Experience participating in industry organization technical committees associated with HVAC/Refrigeration products and equipment, e.g. ASHRAE and AHRI.
  • Familiarity or prior experience working with programs at related Federal agencies that address energy efficiency, such as the Environmental Projection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program and the Federal Trade Commission’s product labelling requirements
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape affecting HVAC/Refrigeration.
  • Strong interest in energy efficiency
