What You Will Do:
We are seeking a Biologist to support research on laboratory and computational analysis of genomic and epigenomic data. The work supports ongoing research involving genotyping, long-range sequencing, and DNA methylation profiling. This is a full-time opportunity located in Baltimore, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform DNA extraction from blood, tissue, or cultured cells using established protocols.

  • Conduct genotyping assays (e.g., SNP arrays, PCR-based methods.

  • Support long-range sequencing workflows (e.g., library prep and sequencing using long-read platforms such as PacBio or Oxford Nanopore).

  • Provide technical support for biological research by assisting in the study of fundamental principles of plant and animal life, including sample quality, integrity, coverage, and contamination assessment.

  • Evaluate biological data and quality control metrics, flag anomalies, and provide preliminary interpretations to research staff.

  • Perform basic laboratory experiments, including DNA methylation assays (e.g., bisulfite conversion and array‑ or sequencing‑based methods), following established protocols.

  • Execute and support quality control pipelines for sequencing and genotyping data; compile, document, and maintain QC metrics in standardized formats.

  • Conduct data analysis using established tools and methods, including R for statistical analysis and visualization and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for pipeline support.

  •  Modify and adapt existing scripts and analytical pipelines to meet project‑specific requirements and support data integration efforts.

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain laboratory samples, supplies, and equipment, ensuring accurate laboratory records, notebooks, and electronic documentation.

  • Prepare summary tables, figures, and written descriptions of methods and results; present findings in internal meetings and contribute to draft reports, manuscripts, and project updates.


What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree

  • Minimum of FOUR (4) years of experience in biology or a related field performing biological research functions in a research setting.

  • R/Python/Bash scripts experience.

  • Experience modifying, maintaining, or executing existing analysis scripts and pipelines to support project‑specific research needs.

  • Experience compiling QC metrics, maintaining accurate laboratory notebooks and electronic records, and preparing summary tables, figures, and written descriptions of methods and results

  • Experience identifying routine technical issues, applying standard troubleshooting approaches, and learning new laboratory or analytical techniques as required

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD Public Trust. Candidates must receive approved adjudication of their Public Trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active Public Trust or existing suitability are preferred.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Proficiency in one scripting language

  • Familiarity with genomic data formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF)

The annual salary range for this position is $98,000.00-$163,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
