What You Will Do:
We are searching for a Data Scientist to provide advanced computational and data science expertise to support digital health and behavioral research within the NIH Intramural Research Program. This position is responsible for leading multimodal data integration, machine learning and simulation modeling, and supporting human subjects research activities to advance understanding of substance use, treatment outcomes, and recovery. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong publication record, including peer-reviewed scientific papers as first author, senior author, or contributing middle author, reflecting substantive contributions to computational modeling, machine learning, AI-driven research, or digital health studies. This is a full-time opportunity located in Baltimore, MD.

  • Develop and implement computational, statistical, and simulation-based experimental designs to evaluate behavioral and digital health research hypotheses.

  • Oversee project data quality; analyze and interpret project data.

  • Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts.

  • Develop and share analytical tools, scripts, and reproducible workflows to support laboratory research activities.

  • Review scientific data to determine if a research program can be developed around an idea or data package.

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree

  • Minimum of ONE (1) year of experience in data science, analytics, or research support

  • Hands on experience with Machine Learning and Generative AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs), multimodal and time series data analysis, and reproducible data science using Python and/or R

  • Experience supporting human subjects’ research

  • Strong skills in data analysis, data presentation, and documentation

  • Experience writing SOPs and contributing to technical or research documentation

  • Proficiency with Python, R, SQL, Pandas, GitHub, Jupyter Notebook, and/or Linux

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD Public Trust. Candidates must receive approved adjudication of their Public Trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active Public Trust or existing suitability are preferred.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Have Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification

  • Background in computational simulation modeling or advanced analytical methods

  • Demonstrated contribution to scientific manuscripts, abstracts, or publications

  • Familiarity with research operations activities, including documentation and supply coordination

  • Working knowledge of modern machine learning ecosystems, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, and Generative AI tooling

  • Exposure to API‑driven workflows, including OpenAI integrations

  • Hands‑on use of cloud environments such as AWS and/or Azure for data or model development

  • Experience working with research data capture and sensing platforms (e.g., REDCap, mobile sensing technologies)

  • Proficiency in additional analytical or technical environments such as MATLAB

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00-$108,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
