What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for MRI Catheterization Technologist to support the research conducted by the Cardiovascular Branch (CB) with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) Division of Intramural Research (DIR) and will work closely with clinicians in obtaining research data for clinical protocols.This position provides technical services for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients under the general direction of a physician within a unique clinical research environment.This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
- Prepare patients for and perform diagnostic cardiac MRI examinations and MRI catheterization examinations
- Perform interactive real-time scanning to guide MRI catheterization and flow measurements
- Screen patients and staff for MRI safety
- Prepare patients and facility for sterile procedures
- Obtain sterile intravenous (IV) access for administration of MRI and radiographic contrast studies
- Manage patient comfort and anxiety during all phases of MRI catheterization
- Perform post-processing of magnetic resonance (MR) images to measure heart function and flow, including manual segmentation of images and data recording and reporting
- Perform post-processing and image analysis of CT, X-ray, MRI, and ultrasound acquisitions as needed for laboratory research
- Assist in the performance of diagnostic, interventional and/or investigational X-ray and MRI catheterization procedures on patients and/or large animals
- Strictly adhere to all MR safety standards and protocols related to MR environment
- Submit images of technical quality
- Perform QA/QC procedures in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines and equipment manufacture, and in accordance with NHLBI MRI Catheterization Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines
- Maintain room cleanliness in accordance with NIH standards
- Room patients, manage patient flow and obtain pertinent patient medical information/data
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, anesthetists, technologists, imaging scientists, facilities staff, and veterinary staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You Will Need:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree and minimum of EIGHT (8) years of invasive cardiovascular technology experience OR an associate’s degree in an accredited health science program plus TEN (10) years of invasive cardiovascular technology experience in lieu of bachelor’s degree, with at least one year of experience specializing in invasive cardiovascular MR techniques and technology
- Must hold or obtain a magnetic resonance certification, such as a Radiography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), within one year of employment
- Must be able to provide on-call support for a one-week period, including weekends and holidays. The actual on-call schedule may vary but is expected to be approximately once per month
- If the candidate is called back during their assigned on-call period, they will be expected to return to the clinic within 45 minutes of receiving a call
- Needs to hold active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (per American Heart Association guidelines) prior to start date
- Needs to obtain certifications in both Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) within the first four months of employment through NIH provided programs
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Communicate and work within a team environment effectively
- Maintain knowledge of a highly technical Imaging Center
- Apply written guidelines and standardized work practices
- Follow all procedures and protocols for assigned work area
- Should be able to perform the following activities (1) stand/sit for long periods of time, (2) some bending, stooping, and stretching, and (3) lifting patients to a maximum of 32 lbs. except in an emergency (i.e. patient falling)
- May need to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
- Navigate within an electronic medical record work environment
- Perform IV Access insertion
- Competent with Contrast Power Injectors
- Interpret basic EKG
- Acquire and record high fidelity hemodynamic recordings
- Familiar with “As Low As Reasonably Achievable” (ALARA) principles
