We are currently searching for a Research Associate with specialized pathology expertise to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity based in Bethesda, MD.
What You Will Do:
Perform and manage components of high-complexity clinical laboratory testing and operations in support of patient care and research protocols.
Evaluate specimen acceptability, interpret test results, and resolve analytical or technical problems.
Provide consultative support to NIH clinical teams during call rotations regarding test selection, method limitations, and resolution of complex laboratory issues.
Review and sign-out protein electrophoresis and immunofixation results, under supervision, to ensure accurate and timely reporting for patient management.
Perform quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and quality improvement (QI) procedures in accordance with CAP/CLIA requirements.
Contribute to laboratory management activities including method development and validation, instrument evaluation, and establishment of reference intervals.
Assume oversight responsibilities as acting section director when assigned; review QC data and monitor daily operations to ensure uninterrupted clinical service.
Plan and conduct translational research projects supporting NIH clinical studies and protocol development.
Disseminate findings through manuscripts, abstracts, departmental seminars, call report meetings, and national scientific conferences.
Participate in structured educational activities including didactic sessions, journal clubs, and case reviews.
Deliver training and mentorship to medical technologists, residents, and visiting staff in clinical chemistry best practice and test interpretation.
Present case discussions and research updates to internal staff and external collaborators to promote knowledge sharing.
Engage with external partner laboratories (e.g., Johns Hopkins, Children’s National) to gain exposure to pediatric, emergency, and molecular diagnostics.
Attend multidisciplinary conferences, professional society meetings, and NIH seminars to maintain current knowledge and integrate best practices into NIH operations.
What You Will Need:
Doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in chemical pathology.
Strong foundation in analytical chemistry, physiology, and pathology.
Prior research and/or clinical experience sufficient to meet American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) eligibility requirements.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, both oral and written.
Must be able to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their PUBLIC TRUST prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred.

US or foreign medical school graduates with post-graduate training in Pathology or Chemistry from an accredited residency training program will be considered.
