What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Staff Scientist to provide analytical and translational research support that will contribute to satisfying the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
In-depth knowledge of molecular and mechanistic studies related to innate immunity and other immune targeting drug therapies as it relates to rejection and fibrosing diseases.
Advanced understanding of post-transplant complications, as well as mechanisms of pulmonary fibrosis
Conduct standard experimental protocols required for processing and analyzing clinical samples relevant to the research program.
Lead mechanism studies and molecular analyses to understand the therapeutic effects of new drug candidates in ongoing or potential clinical trials, with a focus on their anti-sickling effects.
Evaluate the translational, mechanistic and clinical benefits of ex vivo models including precision cut lung slices and lung organoid models.
Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to postdoctoral fellows, post-baccalaureate trainees, and junior staff to foster their scientific and professional development and facilitate successful completion of scientific projects.
Participate in the scientific management and execution of molecular and clinical translational research projects.
Conduct independent scientific research to understand mechanisms of rejection after organ transplantation.
Contribute to gaining further mechanistic insights into the pathophysiology of transplant rejection, organ injury and fibrosing conditions.
What You Will Need:
PhD in a scientific field
Minimum FOUR (4) years of specialized experience in molecular and translational research.
Specialized experience focusing on molecular pathobiology of immune mediated disease through innate immunity, precision cut lung slices, and/or evaluation of novel therapeutic agents,
Demonstrated mastery of standard experimental protocols.
Experience with mentoring/ supporting postdoctoral fellows, trainees, and junior staff in research and professional development.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD Public Trust. Candidates must receive approved adjudication of their Public Trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active Public Trust or existing suitability are preferred.
