What You Will Do:
We are searching for a Veterinarian to manage small animals care, handling and procedures used for research in a lab conducting computer-based PET/CT imaging. This role is also responsible for maintaining and operating laboratory equipment in the microPET area; helping plan and perform research studies; ordering and maintaining the necessary lab supplies; training new personnel with proper use and methods associated with animal experiments; and developing and testing new animals models based on research needs. Provide daily monitoring of animal health for long-term studies that include occasional weekends and coordinating animal facilities for experiments. This is a full-time opportunity located in Bethesda, MD.

  • Develops research protocols involving animals.

  • Performs research and documents findings.

  • Documents all findings and develop reports of results.

  • Monitor the experiment conditions and make recommendations to researchers on appropriate care and treatment of experiment animals.

  • Documents all experimental procedures and reports findings as necessary.

  • Ensures facility compliance with federal, state, local and departmental laws, regulations and guidelines.

What You Will Need:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.

  • A minimum of SIX (6) years of experience supporting animal research or working in a laboratory setting.

  • Working knowledge of small-animal PET/CT imaging procedures and workflows.

  • Experience training laboratory personnel on animal handling and research procedures.

  • Ability to perform daily health monitoring for animals on long-term studies (including occasional weekends, as needed).

  • Experience planning and coordinating experiments with animal care and facility partners.

  • Proficiency in animal handling and inoculation techniques.

  • Proficiency with computer-based data collection and analysis, as well as PET/CT scanner operations and related software.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Previous experience with NIH preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$216,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
