Schedule: Full Time: Monday through Friday, 10AM-6:30PM | Alternate Weekends
Training will be from 8AM-5:30PM

What You Will Do:
Under limited supervision and following prescribed procedures, to maintain a continuous operation of birth data collection activities through data collection, abstraction, interviews with parents and electronic data submission of birth and fetal death certificates to the Alabama Department of Vital Statistics. To ensure all certificates are completed for all newborns, securing necessary signatures and paternity affidavits, and data submitted to the Alabama Department of Vital Statistics within 5 days of birth/death. To maintain birth registry, perinatal database and compile statistical reports. To maintain proficiency in required competencies. To consistency demonstrate behavior that models Guidehouse and the Client core values and missions.
- Directly interacts with patients to ensure that a birth certificate is created for each live birth and a fetal death certificate is created for each death within 5 days of birth.
- Reviews and verifies labor and delivery documentation for accuracy.
- Completes, notarizes, and submits paternity affidavits.
- Communicates confidential information about birth registration to parents.
- Provides educational materials and responds to requests from birth parents.
- Collaborates with physicians and nursing staff to ensure timely workflow.
- Works with manager to identify and solve problems, decrease workflow restrictions, implement process improvements and ensure timeliness of data submissions.
- Review clinical documentation as appropriate for the collection of the birth certificate
- Interviews with parents
- Electronic data submissions of birth and fetal death certificates to the Alabama Department of Vital Statistics.
- Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality of all information encountered including verbal, written, and computerized.
- Reports to the manager any failure by anyone to protect confidential information
- Employees in this role must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday to effectively perform essential job functions, including assisting patients, navigating clinical areas, and completing assigned responsibilities.
What You Will Need:
- High School Diploma or GED or 2+ years of relevant experience in lieu of the education
- 0-2+ years of experience in a clinical/hospital setting (preferably working within medical records)
- Prior computer and data entry work experience
- State of Alabama Notary Public is required for this role, but not to interview. If you are selected for this role but do not have the notary public credential required, you must obtain it within 30 days for the date of hire. Guidehouse will reimburse the expense.
