Hospital Birth Registrar - Onsite, Full Time, Days

What You Will Do:

  • Directly interacts with patients to ensure that a birth certificate is created for each live birth and a fetal death certificate is created for each death within 5 days of birth.
  • Reviews and verifies labor and delivery documentation for accuracy.
  • Completes, notarizes, and submits paternity affidavits.
  • Communicates confidential information about birth registration to parents and provides educational materials and responds to requests from birth parents.
  • Collaborates with physicians and nursing staff to ensure timely workflow.
  • Works with manager to identify and solve problems, decrease workflow restrictions, implement process improvements and ensure timeliness of data submissions.
  • Conduct interviews with parents and review clinical documentation as appropriate for the collection of the birth certificate.
  • Electronic data submissions of birth and fetal death certificates to the Alabama Department of Vital Statistics.
  • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality of all information encountered including verbal, written, and computerized.
  • Reports to the manager any failure by anyone to protect confidential information.


What You Will Need:

  • Associate's Degree (degree preferably from an accredited Health Information Technology program or related field). Experience may be substitute for education requirements.
  • 1 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to work on-site, 10:00 am to 6:30 pm shift with alternating weekend rotation. (Alternating Weekends, one does not work Friday or Monday).
  • Obtain State of Alabama Notary Public within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and team members.


What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • RHIT preferred.
  • Bi-lingual.
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Medical Records and/or strong medical terminology experience.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Process improvement skills
  • Detailed oriented while managing files, mandatory paperwork, and supporting documentation.
