Position Overview

The Guidehouse Energy, Sustainability, & Infrastructure segment is a go-to partner for leaders creating sustainable, resilient communities and infrastructure, serving as trusted advisors to utilities and energy companies, large corporations, investors, NGOs, and the public sector. The North Market Team within the Commercial Energy practices works with utility clients across the energy value chain to guide them through the energy transition. We assist our clients to:

  • Develop and implement their decarbonization and resiliency plans.

  • Support the strategy, design, and evaluation of customer-focused programs – energy efficiency, heat electrification, demand response, energy storage, electric transportation, distributed solar, among others.

  • Support the development and implementation of distribution and transmission investments to modernize energy networks.

As a Managing Consultant on the North Energy Providers team within the Guidehouse Energy, Sustainability, and Infrastructure segment, you will have responsibility for development of project results and client management. You will own the delivery of project workstreams and interact regularly with the client to ensure engagement success. This includes supporting/leading day-to-day internal team meetings and coordinating/facilitating meetings with clients and their stakeholders. You will be expected to prepare and communicate well-organized, effective reports and presentations to clients. You will lead, coach, and mentor others on the team to ensure quality analysis and deliverables.

We are looking for someone with a passion for creative problem solving, client service, and project management. Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Managing small teams responsible to provide detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy-related activities (particularly energy efficiency, grid modernization, renewable energy, customer programs, new business models, and sustainability)

  • Performing, advising, and reviewing on technology assessments, statistical and economic analyses leveraging spreadsheets

  • Facilitating workshops and working sessions between client departments and organizations; lead discussions, form relationships and facilitate consensus-building

  • Communicating solutions and new strategies to clients through reports and presentations

  • Organizing and prepare reports, presentations and other documents for client deliverables

  • Working effectively with colleagues and client staff as part of a project team; work independently as needed


What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 - 7+ years of relevant industry or consulting experience (excluding internships/coops, or fellowships); OR, Master’s degree and 5+ years of relevant industry or consulting experience (excluding internships/coops, or fellowships)

  • Demonstrated experience leading small teams

  • Client service orientation

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with data analytics

  • Strong interest in business strategy, energy efficiency, and sustainability

  • An inquisitive nature and desire for continuous improvement

  • Superior interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate as a part of team, as well as to work independently

  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines.

  • Highly developed organizational and management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel as needed

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Experience creating models within Excel and/or experience with R or other programming languages (e.g., Python)

  • Knowledge and experience in industry topics such as: energy efficiency, electric transportation, renewable energy, electric transmission and distribution infrastructure, natural gas systems, wholesale markets

  • Understanding of business and project management fundamentals

  • Tireless attention to detail in all prior experience (academic and professional)

  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to executive audiences

  • Excellent at visualizing data, synthesizing insights, and storytelling with data

  • A history of successful, creative problem-solving

  • Excitement to explore the underlying cause of the observation/result

This posting is not for immediate hire. Future hire potentially in Q3 2024 or Q4 2024.

The annual salary range for this position is $109,100.00-$163,700.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
