Our customer programs team is a community of experts working on the front lines of the utility industry transition. In short, we partner with our clients to design innovative programs, evaluate and optimize program contributions towards climate, energy, and other goals, and continuously improve the program experience for customers.

What You Will Do:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our customer programs team to support energy, sustainability, and infrastructure work with utility clients across the US. This senior consultant position requires someone with subject matter expertise in building energy modeling to help our clients with program design and to evaluate efficiency and demand management programs. We are seeking candidates with experience in impact evaluation, engineering analysis, and building simulation tools such as EnergyPlus, BEopt, OpenStudio, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or IESVE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies through engineering analysis, energy modeling, and building simulation
  • Completing building energy modeling; intermediate to advanced experience with residential and commercial building simulation tools preferred (EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, BEopt, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IESVE)
  • Performing complex technical and economic analyses, spreadsheet creation, and project/task management
  • Ensuring tasks are completed within project timelines and budgets and in adherence to quality standards
  • Maintaining and strengthening existing client relationships
  • Mentoring and training junior team members
  • Developing and presenting reports, memos, and presentations to deliver research findings to clients
  • While not required for the position, our staff have the opportunity to perform fieldwork including performance measurement and field data collection of building and industrial process energy systems


What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, environmental science, and/or related discipline AND 3+ years experience with impact evaluation, engineering analyses, and building energy modeling; Or Master’s degree degree in an engineering, environmental science, and/or related discipline AND 2+ years experience with impact evaluation, engineering analyses, and building energy modeling. May consider directly relevant paid internships, co-ops or fellowships towards the years of experience.
  • Knowledge of EnergyPlus, BEopt, OpenStudio, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IESVE, and/or other building energy simulation tools
  • Experience in analysis of energy savings for common energy efficiency measures in one of the following: residential, commercial, or industrial sectors (such as lighting, HVAC, motors and drives, industrial processes, controls, weatherization, electrification, and/or custom measures).
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstration attention to detail
  • Proficiency with data analytics in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage significant portions of tasks while leading and collaborating with a close-knit team
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong interest in energy efficiency and sustainability
  • An inquisitive nature and desire for continuous improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel as needed (~5% travel annually)
  • Candidates must be within 50 miles of a Guidehouse office and ability to work a hybrid work schedule of 1-3x week in the office
  • Company may consider sponsorship pending budget approval


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience in analysis of energy savings for common energy efficiency measures either two or more of the following sectors : residential, commercial, industrial sectors to included lighting, HVAC, motors and drives, industrial processes, controls.
  • Post graduation work experience in EnergyPlus, BEopt, OpenStudio, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IESVE, and/or other building energy simulation tools
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project
  • Experience with R, Python, or other programming languages
  • Field experience collecting primary data, such as energy usage data, equipment operation data, or equipment characteristics for the purposes of building energy audits or energy savings analyses
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to clients or executive audiences
  • Excellent at visualizing data, synthesizing insights, and storytelling with data
  • Experience training and mentoring junior staff

The annual salary range for this position is $94,900.00-$142,300.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
