What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for the routine maintenance of steam sterilizers and industrial washing equipment as well as ordering parts and supplies.
  • Responsible for inspection of equipment and performing periodic maintenance to ensure safety of operation.
  • Assist with installing, modifying, troubleshooting, maintaining, testing, calibrating, adjusting, overhauling, and repairing biomedical research support equipment including steam sterilizers, cage/rack washers, glass washers, and drying ovens.
  • Assist with repairs to mechanical equipment and mechanical assemblies involving motors, pumps, gears, shafts, and pulleys. Assistance with maintenance and repair will include hydraulic oil, vacuum, suction and pressure systems as well as water, steam, compressed air, gas under pressure, and piped oxygen lines associated with equipment serviced.
  • Utilize electronic test equipment such as voltmeters, multimeters, thermometers, pH/conductivity meters and pressure/vacuum gauges to perform diagnostics on mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and other specifications.
  • Perform electronic troubleshooting on control systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems including their grips, locks, stop and release mechanisms, and have the ability to determine when properly adjusted with pneumatic valves.
  • Preparing maintenance and repair reports, summaries, protocols, and inventories.
  • Anticipate future as well as current requirements for parts and supplies as projects proceed.
  • Placing orders and coordinating shipping and receiving of parts and materials from outside sources.
  • Run/operate cage washers, drying ovens, steam sterilizers, glass washers as well as other equipment and provide results to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate and communicate effectively in a group, team-oriented working environment.
  • Responsible for biomedical equipment shop upkeep and routine maintenance of tools, test equipment, supplies and inventories.


What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree or FOUR (4) years
  • Minimum of ONE (1) year of work experience.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and move/shove 100+lbs.
  • Ability to work in tight/confined spaces with exposure to excessive heat.
  • Will need to obtain and maintain NIH security clearance required for access into BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs, including CDC Select Agent areas.
  • Will need to obtain and maintain NIH Biosurety Program enrollment and clearance.
  • Will need to obtain and maintain fit testing for N95 respirators and Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs).
  • Will need to obtain and maintain vaccination requirements for access into specialized research laboratories.
  • Perform additional project work or duties at the request of task leader.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Previous experience working with the National Institute of Health (NIH) preferred
