What You Will Do:
The Coding Inpatient, Outpatient and Pro Fee Team Supervisor must be proficient in medical coding and have experience overseeing coding teams. The Supervisor will perform training and initial QA review for coders who are direct reports. Supervisors must have the ability to review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10 Diagnosis codes, along with CPT/PCS codes as defined for the service type, for coding, billing, internal and external reporting, research as required, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of the Coding Manager—Supervisors should be proficient in communicating with coding teams, Client contacts and Providers regarding the coding of conditions and procedures as documented and in accordance with ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS/MAC rules and the CPT rules established by the AMA, and any other official coding guidelines established for use with mandated standard code sets. The Supervisor scope may involve oversight of teams working coding related denials from payers and recommending the appropriate action to resolve the claim based on payer guidelines. Supervisors should be proficient in Excel and create reports as requested and must communicate professionally with all levels of personnel both internally and externally. Travel may be necessary to client sites at times. This position is full time and is 100% remote.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains a working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform quality coding and answer questions on inpatient/outpatient surgery, clinic, emergency room, Ancillary.
- Provide training/instruction for new coders on assigned facility. Training to include facility specific coding/abstracting guidelines, encoder and EMR functionality.
- Responsible for following facility specific policies and procedures
- Provide daily support to coder on as needed basis to answer questions relating to the facility.
- Reviews the coding and pending queues daily to ensure all charts are worked timely and notifies administrative staff in the event they cannot meet the twenty-four hour turn around standard.
- Facilitates daily work assignments to coders and works with Operations Manager to resolve coder questions and issues.
- Sends a daily queue status report and communicates to the facility as necessary.
- Responsible for working directly with the IQC staff to ensure quality standards are being met for each facility.
- Coaches team members to improve their performance with some input and direction from management. Escalates performance issues as appropriate.
What You Will Need:
- Requires a University Degree and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience (Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education)
- 3 years of medical coding experience
- Must maintain credential throughout employment.
- Strong working knowledge & experience with Federal & State Coding Regulations and Guidelines.
- Must be a US Citizen and willing to undergo a federal background check as part of the onboarding process
- Must hold one of the following credentials: (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, COC).
- Must have three years of medical coding experience.
- Supervisor experience
What Would Be Nice to Have:
- Experience working in any of the following systems: EPIC, Cerner, Next Gen, Allscripts or any other EHR.
- Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology.
- Experience with Coding clinics ICD-10-CM and PCS.
- Experience with Government and other Payer guidelines as they relate to compliant coding.

The annual salary range for this position is $57,000.00-$85,400.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
