What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Scientific Policy Analyst to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of sup-port services.This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Rockville, MD.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Strategic Planning, Legislation and Scientific Policy (OSPLSP) and other NIMHD staff on strategic planning, implementation and monitoring, scientific reporting and policy development. 
  • Contribute to scientific activities for assessing minority health and health disparities research, including coding NIMHD’s funded research, and reviewing and coding biomedical and behavioral interventions for inclusion in a publicly accessed database. 
  • Synthesize information, write, and edit scientific documents and prepare PowerPoint presentations for multiple audiences to include scientists, policymakers, and the lay public.
  • Collaborate with staff to provide information to staff in the scientific community in all scientific, policy and regulatory aspects of the program policy.
  • Provide scientific, analytical and/or policy support, assistance and coordination to senior leadership and program staff related to a broad range of institute activities.
  • Analyze input from stakeholders related to the research portfolio and synthesizing those responses for the Institute’s senior leadership.
  • Participate in planning meetings to advise staff on the standard operating procedure methodology to be used in planning, implementation, operations, and evaluation of these reviews.
  • Develop cross-Institute collaborations to support initiatives in research program; develop support for research funding and educational initiatives.
  • Plan, organize and participate in technical meetings and consultations that convene diverse groups to discuss key issues, identify research gaps and priorities, and articulate research agendas around specific research topics.
  • Write scientific narratives in response to congressional questions and requested reports, policy analysis and concept development management.


What You Will Need:

  • Master’s Degree
  • At least 2 years of policy-related experience.
  • Knowledge of minority health and health disparities
  • Experience using online systems to conduct data analyses for identifying funding patterns, scientific gaps and opportunities, and program evaluations
  • MS Office, including SharePoint
  • Adobe Acrobat


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • PhD preferred
  • NIH experience helpful
  • Studied public policy, public health, population health or similar
  • Experience using NIH Data Systems (e.g., QVR, isearch) preferred
