What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Staff Scientist to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through support services performance. This full-time opportunity is on site in Rockville, MD.  
Responsible:

  • Advance the science in the laboratory through new procedures and discoveries

  • Participate in establishing criteria and standards for others to follow in the planning, review, and evaluation of bioinformatics research projects

  • Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts

  • Assist the lab staff in creating and preparing various documents required by the lab's scientific activities.

  • Coordinate training of users in applying data and analysis methods for their research studies.

  • Coordinate the establishment of active interactions between Central Brain Tumor Registry of the US (CBTRUS), Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) and International Agency for Research on Center (IARC) in order to provide a unique opportunity for the development of interactive descriptive statistics resources for brain tumors in collaboration with the DCEG Descriptive Epidemiology Working Group

  • In conjunction with senior leadership, establish a translational research program investigating the epidemiology and etiology of brain tumors, focusing on the role of sex differences.

  • Facilitate intra- and extra-mural collaborations aimed at identifying areas of clinical and community-based practice that inform sex-based differences in care delivery

  • Write papers and abstracts detailing research efforts and results for publication in peer-reviewed journals; prepare PowerPoint presentations.

  • Oversee the data management for all processed compounds.

  • Conduct bioinformatics data analyses and statistical analyses; prepare data for abstracts and manuscripts.

  • Co-author manuscripts on research projects; publish in peer-reviewed journals.

What You Will Need:

  • PhD in Community and/or Public Health

  • 14 years minimum of project/program management experience, preferably in a multi-team environment

  • Experience in government or academic health research

  • Experience developing and implementing program

  • Must be able to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their PUBLIC TRUST prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Strong and effective written and oral communication skills (email, written, and verbal)

  • Experience in government or academic health research.

  • Highly detail-oriented.

  • Strong organizational and health sciences research skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to understand the goals of the projects and funding and to develop the necessary operational systems to implement them

  • Experience managing sponsored projects and complex multi-investigator collaborations

  •  Demonstrated ability and experience in taking initiative and working with others in a collaborative environment

The annual salary range for this position is $149,000.00-$248,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
