Are you interested in working with exceptional people in a high-performing consulting environment, supporting leading energy clients as they navigate the energy transition, digital transformation and the operational realities of a more complex energy system?

At Guidehouse, our Commercial EU team works with energy companies, infrastructure operators, governments, industrial companies and other corporates across energy-intensive sectors. We support clients facing regulatory change, evolving markets, grid constraints, decarbonisation challenges and the growing role of data and digital solutions.

This Utrecht-based role is for a strong MSc graduate (or BSc with relevant consulting experience) who wants to build deep energy-transition expertise. The focus is Dutch energy clients, with selected work in adjacent sectors.

What You Will Do

You will work with local and international clients on strategic, analytical and technology questions essential for a successful and accelerated energy transition: market and policy analysis, data-driven insights, client interviews, workshops, and digital or technology-enabled transformation. You will progressively take responsibility for defined analyses, client conversations and deliverables.

We help clients move from ambition and analysis to practical decisions and delivery. This often requires close collaboration with client teams across strategy, regulation, sustainability, operations, finance, data and IT. Project teams are interdisciplinary and often international, combining expertise in energy systems, markets, infrastructure, technology and management consulting.

Example Project Work

  • Analyse Dutch and European energy-market, policy and system developments.
  • Assess renewable generation, flexibility, hydrogen and green molecules in future energy-system scenarios.
  • Define digitalisation priorities, data opportunities, technology roadmaps or target operating models.
  • Develop business cases and implementation roadmaps for advanced technologies.
  • Build analyses, models, dashboards or visualisations using Excel, Power BI, Python, SQL or similar tools.
  • Prepare client interviews, workshops and stakeholder sessions, including synthesis of findings and next steps.

What Makes This Role Different

You will work on real energy-system challenges in the Netherlands and Europe, combining:

  • Energy-transition depth: grids, renewables, hydrogen, flexibility.
  • Strategy and technology: helping clients connect market choices, technology, data and operating models.
  • International exposure: working in a global advisory firm with deep energy expertise.
  • Rapid development: learning through client work, coaching and structured training.

What You Will Need

  • MSc degree, preferably in energy science, sustainable energy technology, electrical or systems engineering, econometrics, data science, economics, business or strategy. Alternatively, candidates with a BSc degree and a few years of relevant consulting experience are also considered.
  • Strong academic performance and genuine interest in the Dutch and European energy transition.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including data collection, analysis, structuring of insights and clear synthesis.
  • Interest in technology consulting, digital solutions, data-driven decision making, operating models, automation, AI or GenAI.
  • Strong Excel and data-analysis skills; interest in Power BI, Python, SQL, data visualisation, modelling or dashboards.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English.
  • Team orientation, learning agility, initiative and comfort working with clients in a supporting role.

What Would Be Nice to Have

  • Interest in energy providers, TSOs, DSOs, utilities, infrastructure operators or energy-intensive industries.
  • Exposure to grids, congestion, flexibility, offshore wind, hydrogen, digitalisation, data or AI in energy.
  • Relevant thesis, internship, research project or extracurricular activity linked to energy strategy, technology or data.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required (up to 25%).

What You Will Develop

  • Build consulting skills, communication and problem solving through structured trainings.
  • Accelerate development through client work, feedback and coaching.
  • Strengthen expertise in energy-transition topics that matter to Dutch and European clients.
  • Gain experience across strategy, technology, data and transformation projects.
  • Grow your network across Guidehouse’s international energy and technology network.

How to Apply

Apply with your CV, including academic grades, and a motivation letter of up to 400 words explaining why Guidehouse, why energy strategy and technology, and what client, team or project experience shows your consulting potential.
